Ardara is one of Donegal's unique heritage towns and a major centre for the manufacture of hand-woven tweed. As befits such a town there are a large number of tweed and knitwear shops located along the main street. The importance of Ardara as a centre for the tween industry dates back to the turn of the last century. Back then the town's weavers would display their products for sale on bales of straw and buyers would come from all areas of Donegal to purchase their wares.
