Mia's Cottage

Mia's Cottage is a restored traditional cottage situated in the north western part of the beautiful Inishowen Peninsula in Co Donegal. It is located 5 miles from Clonmany Village on the road leading to the breathtaking Mamore Gap. There are wonderful hill views to back of the cottage with sea views over Lough Swilly towards the front. These scenic surroundings make Mia's Cottage a relaxing holiday base to explore the Inishowen Peninsula.The cottage is a short drive to Malin Head. The cottage was recently restored and now exudes old world charm combined with modern comforts including free internet for customers.. It features high pine celings, sliding sash windows and wooden floors. A solid fuel stove, central heating and high levels of insulation make it a very cosy holiday home. A private lane leads to the cottage and there is large back garden enclosed with an old stone wall. This garden is a safe play area and features a swing and a slide.


The holiday home is just a few minutes drive from three of the finest beaches on the Inishowen Peninsula – Leenan beach, Tullagh Strand and Pollan Strand at nearby Ballyliffin . The latter two beaches are used by the Inishowen Surfing School for Surf lessons. Pollan Strand has a lovely playground at the beach entrance and features a coastal path along its length, ending with the ruins of Carraickabraghy castle.

Mia’s Cottage is within a stroll of Cic’s pub where the pint of Guinness and craic is good. The Rusty Nail pub serves excellent bar food while the local Ballyliffin Hotels are well known for their cuisine.Clonmany Village has a good choice of entertainmen. Halfway between the cottage and Clonmany is the wonderful Glenevin Waterfall. A lovely walk following a stream through a wooded valley leads to the 40ft waterfall. There are a number of scenic picnic areas along the route. If you haven’t brought a picnic you can always call into the renowned Glen House Tea Rooms located at the start of the walk.A short distance from the cottage is the truly dramatic Gap of Mamore. This is one of the highlights of the Inishowen 100 scenic route and is also on the Wild Atlantic Way route. The Gap of Mamore rises to a height of 800 feet above sea level before a dramatically spiralling descent boasting panoramic views of the northern coastline. It is a popular challenge for cyclists and hill walkers. Mia's Cottage is within easy driving distance of some of the main towns on the Inishowen Peninsula including Buncrana, Clonmany and Carndonagh. The ancient and historic walled City of Derry is just a 35 minute drive away. A scene of much conflict in the latter part of the 20th century, Derry is today one of Ireland's most vibrant cities. Following the end of the troubles, the city has redeveloped much of its former character and charm. Mia's Cottage is ideal for those who wish to explore Derry from a more a tranquil base.Enjoy pony trekking from the Tullagh Bay Equestrian Centre. Play golf on the internationally renowned Ballyliffin Golf Club. Other fine golf courses on the Inishowen Peninsula can be found at Greencastle, Redcastle and Buncrana. Visit Doagh Famine Village near Ballyliffin. This wondeful attraction depicts life in Donegal at different stages throughout history in an informative and enjoyable tour Check out the Glendowen Craft Studio near Clonmany which specialises in the design and making of Donegal Tweed garments and accessories. Visit the Fort and Military Museum at Dunree. Go walking on the many coastal pathways, woodland, and hills on the Inishowen Peninsula.Enjoy beautiful unspoilt beaches in the locality – as well as, Leenan, Pollan and Tullagh other fine beaches include Five Finger Strand near Malin, and the Blue Flag Culdaff Beach. Take a trip around the famous Inishowen 100 This is one of Ireland's most scenic drives.
